Was the last over-ride for the new, large gymnasium at $ 2.5 MILLION ?
AND THERE WAS A TOTAL OF 12 VOTES CAST IN THE ENTIRE ELECTION ! The approval had 9 VOTES with 3 against !
It was held in the summer and the voting place for Hidden Valley was over at Thunderbird Farms Water Co. , for the 1st time. I think I am remembering all this correctly. If some one lets me know different, I will correct it.
All appearances of the election sure seemed to not want many people to show up at the poll. Stanfield voted in Stanfield.
I was on a trip at the time, but had voted. And I was shocked at the outcome.
The last time I had visited the school, the school buildings were in terrible condition. And yet, the school board asked for an indoor basket ball gym, with all the added costs. The school only goes thru 8th grade. There were always outdoor courts. Was it the school with students ages up to 13-14, that needed it ? Or was it for older young men, adults and drop-outs to have a place to hang around in air conditioning for wrestling ? All along they had been given permission by the school to use the out door courts for basketball.
Personally, I wish that all that money had gone toward the remodeling of the school. It is built of red brick and steel, so there is so much they could have done. I am really going to have to think about this one. I feel bad not being able to support them at this point. I just have too many questions right now.
I have heard nothing good about the school in years and people are choosing to take their children else where. This year in the sheriff's log I have seen them called about 5 times for discipline problems. And a few months ago a young girl took her teacher over by one of the buildings to show them a marijuana plant growing. Now, I guess no custodian ever saw it, huh ? ( safe place to grow, huh !
) Amazing.As a property owner, the only time I get any communication from Stanfield School is when they want more money.
